Following their historic season on the football field this year, the Dinwiddie Generals football team has been recognized for their efforts. A flurry of Dinwiddie standouts have been rewarded with postseason awards since the Generals concluded their season.
Leading the way for the Generals was senior WR Dequan Coles. The speedy wideout finished the season with 60 catches for 970 yards and 14 TD’s.
Coles’ spectacular efforts made him a popular pick for most of this year’s postseason honors.
The 2 most prestigious honors for Coles came when he was named to the First Team All- Metro team by the Richmond Times-Dispatch and when Digital Sports.com named him to their “Legends of the Fall” Team. Coles was also named First Team All Central Region and First Team All Central District.
Dinwiddie QB Adam Morgan capped a terrific junior campaign by being named Central District Offensive Player of the Year. He also made 2nd Team All Metro, 2nd Team All Central Region, and 1st Team All Central District. Morgan finished the season with 2305 passing yards and 33 passing TD’s, while also running for 441 yards and 8 TD’s.
Joining Morgan on the 2nd Team All Metro squad were fellow juniors WR Jerell White and LB Bradley Johnson. The trio of juniors will all return next season for the Generals, who have high expectations for next season.
Several other Dinwiddie players were given All Region and All District honors. A full list of all those receiving honors is listed below.
Dinwiddie coach Billy Mills, who was named Central District Division 5 Coach of the Year, said he was extremely proud of the postseason honors rewarded to his players.
“Our guys battled through a lot of adversity on their way to success. These kids hung tough and never wavered through the difficult times,” said Coach Mills, “when others around them were quitting, these kids stuck with it and have reaped the rewards.”
Coach Mills credited all the players hard work and dedication in the offseason training program as the key to their achievements, “Our team and individual success were a testament to the effort these players put forward in the offseason, not just this offseason, but the last several.”
“This group of players raised the bar, they will be remembered as the group that turned the corner for our program. They built the foundation.” Coach Mills added.
