Generals Fall to Meadowbrook

The Meadowbrook Monarchs entered their showdown with the Dinwiddie Generals ranked as the #1 team in the Central Region and they showed exactly why while rolling to a 56-17 victory.  Meadowbrook was led by the electric duo of QB Andre Coble and RB Domico Phillips, who combined to account for all 8 of the Monarchs touchdowns - 5 by Phillips and 3 by Coble.

Despite the final score, the game was actually quite competitive most of the way.  The Gens drove right down the field on the game’s first drive and took a 3-0 lead on Eder Lopez’s 34-yard field goal.  But Meadowbrook would score on two long Phillips TD runs of 35 and 37 yards, to take a 14-3 lead.

A 7-yard Darius Johnson TD run for the Generals cut the Meadowbrook lead to 14-10 with 4:44 left in the 2nd quarter.  Meadowbrook answered with a TD drive of their own to make it 20-10 at the half.

But when the teams emerged from the locker rooms to start the 2nd half, the game belonged to Meadowbrook as they outscored the Generals 22-0 in the 3rd quarter to take a commanding lead and control of their own destiny in the battle for the Central District title.  The back-breaker coming when Coble found Phillips out of the backfield for a 64yard TD pass to make it 36-10.

WR Quintaze Jackson led the Generals offensively making 7 catches for 95 yards.  He also ran for 20 yards on 5 carries and added an explosive 55-yard punt return.  Defensively for the Generals DE Corey Marshall was a disruptive force making plays in the Meadowbrook backfield all evening long, forcing the mobile Coble out of the pocket on several occasions.

The impressive win only adds to Meadowbrook’s resume’, which now includes wins over Highland Springs, Hermitage, Norview, and Dinwiddie.  The Monarchs are now 5-0 on the season.

The disappointing loss leaves the Generals at 3-2 this season but still very much alive both the race for the Central District title and the Division 5 Playoffs.  Dinwiddie would need help in the District race, in the form of a Meadowbrook loss, but they are very much alive in the Division 5 Playoff race.  The Generals will waste little time getting back into the swing of things with another big game this week against Thomas Dale (3-2).  Both teams are fighting to keep their Playoff hopes alive, so the intensity should be at a fever pitch.
