Generals Put Up 50…Again

Dinwiddie Rolls Over Colonial Heights 52-15

If the Dinwiddie Generals aren’t careful, their fans are going to start expecting them to score 50 points EVERY game.

For the 2nd game in a row, and the 3rd time in the last 4 games, Dinwiddie rolled up more than 50 points. The only game they fell short of the 50-point barrier in that stretch, they just missed – scoring “only” 48. Slackers…(sarcasm)

Once again, the offensive explosion started early when Dinwiddie QB Adam Morgan hit Terron Adams on a 13-yard TD pass just 1 minute and 38 seconds into the ballgame. Just a few minutes later, Morgan would find Adams again - this time deep down the middle of the field – for a 75-yard touchdown to make the score 14-0.

The Generals offense quickly found themselves back on the field after defensive back Pierre Hawkes intercepted a pass 2 plays later at the Colonial Heights 34-yard line.

An 18-yard catch by Jerrell White and a 7-yard run by Mark Beville set up a 1-yard touchdown plunge by Bradley Johnson to bump the score to 21-0 just 9 minutes into the 1st quarter.

Another Colonial Heights turnover, this time a fumble recovered by Dinwiddie DE Brian Belangia, set the Generals up again deep in Colonial Heights territory. Morgan connected with Quintaze Jackson from 22 yards out to quickly make it 28-0. Morgan and Jackson would team up again on the next drive, first for 30 yards and then a play later on a 20-yard TD that made it 35-0.

Dinwiddie kicker Chad Jones booted a 42-yard field goal just before the half to give the Generals a 38-0 lead going into the locker room.

In the second half, the Dinwiddie ground game took over as the Generals scored on a 7-yard run by Chris Hall and a 49-yard run by HB Mark Beville.

In the midst of this recent offensive explosion, the Generals have seen a number of players step up and assume important roles, giving them a plethora of weapons to choose from on offense. Coach Billy Mills stressed how important this has been to the team’s recent offensive success.

“Being a former defensive coach, I know most defenses gear up to stop 1 or 2 key players on the opposing offense” said Coach Mills, “To have as many weapons as we have makes it that much tougher to stop.”

The only problem seems to come in trying to keep everyone involved. “We chart all our touches, and we try to keep things as balanced as possible.”

Defensively for the Generals another strong effort held Colonial Heights to just 277 yards, many of which came in the latter part of the 2nd half after the game’s outcome had long been decided.

LB Bradley Johnson led the way with 9 tackles and an interception. Pierre Hawkes and Terron Adams both also had INTs, while DT’s Keith Abbey and Corey Marshall plugged the middle with 6 tackles apiece.

The win moves the Generals record to 4-1 this season and 2-0 in the Central District, Colonial Heights drops to 2-3 and 0-2 in the Central.

This week Dinwiddie travels to Thomas Dale to take on the Knights in what should be the Generals toughest test to date. Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm this Friday, October 10th at Thomas Dale High School.
