On most nights it’s the Dinwiddie passing attack that moves the Generals up and down the field while lighting up the scoreboard. However, this past Friday at Greensville it was the Generals running attack that took over the game and allowed them to roll to a 50-24 victory.Leading the way for the Dinwiddie ground game was freshman RB Jordan Prentiss, who saw his first significant action of the season and delivered with an impressive performance. The frosh rolled up 148 yards on the night on just 13 carries while scoring 2 TD’s. Prentiss ripped off several Sportscenter-worthy runs, running around and through Greensville defenders. Most notably on his final carry of the night - a 42-yard gallop where he broke 6 or 7 tackles. Also joining in on the ground attack was Dinwiddie QB Chris Hall, who finished with 10 carries for 59 yards. Normally a threat through the air, WR Quinatze Jackson had 25 yards rushing on only 3 carries and junior OLB Andre Thweatt made an impact on the offensive side of the ball with 2 rushing TD’s in the Generals “Goal Line” short yardage package.Although the Generals pulled away in the 26-point victory, they were challenged by an improved Greensville team for much of the game. Early on though, it looked like Dinwiddie might roll to an easy victory as a 3-yard Thweatt TD and a 6-yard Prentiss score gave them an early 14-0 lead. Greensville answered quickly with a 1 minute and 17 second drive that culminated with a 26-yard TD from QB David Sloan to Russell Gillus to make it 14-6, but the Generals responded on the very next play when senior Quintaze Jackson took the kickoff 80 yards “to the house” to quickly make it 20-6.In the second quarter, the momentum swung to Greensville as the Dinwiddie offense failed to capitalize on 2 scoring chances in the red zone. Greensville cut the Generals lead to 20-12 when Sloan hooked up with WR Avontis Miller on a 30-yard TD pass. The speedy Miller harassed the Generals again just before the half when he fielded a Chris Hall punt and darted down the Greensville sideline 54 yards for a TD that made it 20-18 at the half.Answering the bell in the 2nd half was the Dinwiddie defense which quickly forced a turnover at midfield. The Generals offense marched down the field on the ground and punched it into the endzone on Thweatt’s 2nd 3-yard burst of the night to extend the lead to 26-18. The fired-up defense responded again forcing a Greensille punt. Following two more first downs on the gorund, the Generals big-play passing game struck when Hall hooked up with Jackson on 45-yard bomb down the Dinwiddie sideline to give the Generals a 34-18 lead.Greensville would make one last push, marching 75 yards on 6 plays to cut the lead to 34-24, but as they did all night, the Generals put the game on ice with their running attack. Prentiss led the way with runs of 11, 13, and 9 yards on the drive as the Generals wasted no time in bumping their lead to 42-24. An interception by Dinwiddie safety Tavares Johnson at the end of the 3rd quarter set up an acrobatic 11-yard TD pass from Hall to WR Trey Gardner that gave Dinwiddie a 50-24 lead and put the game out of reach. While the ground game led the way, the Generals also managed to do some considerable damage through the air as well. Hall finished 15-of-35 for 239 yards and 2 TD’s. WR Drakar Harvell had 5 catches for 112 yards and Jackson made 3 catches for 81 yards including a TD. The balanced offensive attack helped the Generals rack up 487 yards of total offense and 24 first downs. The road win makes Dinwiddie 2-1 this season as they enter their bye week. The Generals have next Friday off, and next take the field Friday October 2nd against Colonial Heights for Homecoming. Kickoff is slated for 7 PM. See you there!
