Not only will Adam Morgan never again wear a #7 Dinwiddie Generals football jersey…no one will.  At their annual post-season football banquet last Sunday, the Generals gave Adam Morgan an honor no one in the history of Dinwiddie football has ever received, they retired his jersey.

This final honor tops the list of accomplishments Morgan has achieved while playing for the Generals, which says a whole lot.  Morgan leaves Dinwiddie as the VHSL all-time leader in pass completions, passing yards, and passing touchdowns.  He also holds the VHSL single-season record for passing TD’s in a season after throwing for 48 this past season.

Morgan will now take his talents to VMI, where he will continue his football career.

The retirement of Morgan’s jersey highlighted an exciting night of celebration for the Dinwiddie football team.  The team gave away some important team honors and re-lived some of the best moments from their historic 2008 season that saw them finish 12-2 while making a run to the VHSL Division 5 State Championship Game.

Offensive honors went to seniors Jerrell White(Top WR), Morgan(Top Back), and Nick Watts(Top Lineman).  The Top Gun Award (Offensive MVP) was awarded to Morgan.

Defensively honors went to sophomore Corey Marshall(Top Lineman), senior Bradley Johnson(Top LB), and senior Pierre Hawkes(Top DB).  The Predator Award for defensive MVP was awarded to Marshall, who became one of the Central Region’s most dominant defensive players as the season progressed.

The Generals awarded their Coaches Award to senior RT David Abbey.  The award is given to the player who best exemplifies what the Dinwiddie football team stands for.  It is awarded to players displaying hard work, leadership, and other factors the Generals football program believes in.  Abbey was one of the Generals emotional leaders this season, he will take his talents to Virginia State next season, where he will play football while also entering the school’s Honors Program.

The Generals Scholar Athlete Award went to sophomore twin brothers Brandon and Joseph Taylor who both sport impressive 4.52 GPA’s in the classroom.

In other Generals football news, more Generals were honored this past week with All-State honors, this time by the VHSCA – the Virginia High School Coaches Association.  Morgan and White received 1st Team All-State honors, while Johnson and senior placekicker Chad Jones received 2nd Team honors.  Hawkes also received attention from the VHSCA for his fine season at CB and was named Honorable Mention All-State.

Hawkes, who finished the season with 3 INTs for the Generals, is also one of several Dinwiddie seniors still deciding on where they will play football next season.  We’ll keep you updated when those decisions are made.
