RB/LB Andre Thweatt and QB Chris Hall will proudly represent the Generals in the game on July 15 at Hampton University.

The game will feature some of the top high school stars the state of Virginia has to offer.

Thweatt will play on the defensive side of the football at LB, while Hall will plat TE in the game, the position he will most likely play at the collegiate level.

WR Trey Gardner signed with Ball State.

Located in Muncie, Indiana the Cardinals play in the Mid-American Conference.  On a lighter note, the university is well-known as the alma mater of late night talk show host, David Letterman.

Safety Darec Brooks will take his football talents to Liberty University.  Brooks suffered some bad luck early this season when he tore his ACL.  However, he is recovering well and Liberty will be getting a talented football player.

At Liberty, Brooks will join former Dinwiddie CB Pierre Hawkes, who plays CB for the Flames.

DE Corey Marshall and QB Chris Hall will both be heading off to Blacksburg next season.

Marshall should be a nice fit on the defensive line for VT defensive coordinator Bud Foster’s attacking defense.  A role where he should flourish.

Hall was recruited by the Hokies as a tight end, despite having several schools around the country offer him as a QB.

The Generals were the only school in Virginia, or anywhere else…for that matter, to have two players sign with Virginia Tech – the ACC Champions in football for 3 of the last 4 seasons(’07, ’08, ’10).

Some of the most recent recognition has come at a national level, with several Generals being honored with very prestigious post-season awards.

In case you missed it, DE Corey Marshall participated in the inaugural All World Gridiron Classic presented by the National Underclassman Combine.  Corey showed off his ability on the field registering a sack and a tackle for loss while also being a disruptive force on defense all night long for the All-NUC team.

On top of that, Corey was named the NUC Defensive Player of the Year  the night before the game.

QB Chris Hall was also recently honored nationally as he was chosen as one of the 50 recipients of the Old Spice Player of the Year Award.  Chris and the other 49 players selected will be featured in a full page announcement in USA Today on February 3rd.

It wasn’t just seniors honored either…..

RB/LB Andre Thweatt led the way for the Generals carrying the ball 16 times for 209 yards and 3 TDs.  Included in that was a 75-yard TD run on the Gens first offensive play of the game.  Thweatt also recorded 17 tackles and 2.5 sacks on defense.

QB Chris Hall ran for 76 yards and threw for 124 yards for the Generals.

The Dinwiddie defense slowed the powerful Hanover offense that had posted impressive numbers all season long.  The Gens forced 3 turnovers against a Hanover offense known for the way it takes care of the football.  The biggest coming on a blocked punt early in the 3rd quarter that sophomore MLB Darius Johnson scooped up and carried to the endzone to give Dinwiddie a 21-14 lead.

Johnson also made 14 tackles on the night.  Senior OLB Joseph Taylor had a big night as well, making 9 tackles with 3 sacks and an INT.  Safety Tavaras Johnson’s INT late in the 4th quarter thwarted a late Hanover drive into Dinwiddie territory.

The Generals move on to the State Semi-Finals and will face Eastern Region champion Phoebus(13-0)  on Saturday at Dinwiddie High School.  Kickoff is set for 1:30 PM.

The game is a rematch of the 2008 Division 5 State Championship game played in Blacksburg, Phoebus won that game 37-12 and is currently on a Virginia-record 43-game win streak.

The Dinwiddie Generals moved to 11-0 on the season with a convincing 43-21 win over #3 seed Clover Hill in the Central Region semi-finals.

The Generals used a fast-paced, balanced attack to rack up 43 points on a Clover Hill team that had previously held all 10 of their opponents to under 14 points. The Dinwiddie offense rolled for 483 total yards, 307 of them coming on the ground. Senior RB Andre Thweatt paced the Generals ground attack with 158 yards on 19 carries and 1 TD.

Generals QB Chris Hall ran for 141 yards on 21 carries and 5 TDs. As part of the balanced attack he also threw for 176 yards while completing 14 of 20 passes.

Sophomore WR Darius Hawkins was his favorite target catching 7 passes for 95 yards.

The Dinwiddie defense swarmed QB Joel Caleb and the explosive Clover Hill offense all night long. DE Corey Marshall was a disruptive force from the opening snap sacking Caleb twice while also recording 10 tackles and 3 QB hurries.

Defensive back Brandon Taylor had 11 tackles and a sack. He also made perhaps the game’s biggest play of the night on special teams when he blocked a punt on Clover Hill’s first drive of the 2nd half.

Dinwiddie jumped out to the early 7-0 lead on a Chris Hall 5-yd TD run on the game’s opening drive.  The scoring stalled for both teams until the beginning of the 2nd quarter when Dinwiddie RB Andre Thweatt broke a 46-yard TD run right thru the heart of the Greensville defense to make the score 14-0.

The Generals carried that lead into the locker room at halftime, but Greensville was not ready to just hand over the game in the 2nd half.  Greensville WR Russell Gillus caught a short screen pass and used his speed to turn into into a 64-yard reception that moved Greensville down to the Generals 1-yard line.  They would score a play later to make the score 14-6.

Special teams and defense would help the Gens take the game over in the 3rd quarter though.  As a blocked punt midway thru the 3rd set up a 3-yard TD run by Hall to make it 21-6.

At the end of the 3rd with Greensville pinned in their own territory, Dinwiddie DB Drakar Harvell would jump in front of a Greensville pass and scamper 38 yards with it for a TD to bump the Dinwiddie lead to 28-6 and effectively put the game out of reach.

Later on in the 4th, freshman RB Sadarius Williams would put the game out of reach with a 13-yard TD run up the middle.

Once again, the Dinwiddie defense played aggressively forcing 6 turnovers on the night, scoring once and setting up another score.

The win moves the Generals to 3-0 as they enter their bye week.  Next up for the Generals is a road game at Colonial Heights on October 1.  The loss moves Greensville to 1-2 this season.

First was a 30-10 victory over Poquoson.  The Generals offense set the tone in the first half after a slow start.  A 90-yard TD pass from Chris Hall to Drakar Harvell got the Gens going and after that they never looked back.

Despite trailing 16-0 at the half, Poquoson came out in the 2nd half looking to score an upset in their home opener.  When a TD and 2-point conversion cut the Dinwiddie lead to 16-8, it looked like they might have grabbed the momentum.  But again for the Generals, Harvell was there to make a big play when they needed it, taking the ensuing kickoff 90 yards to the end zone.  The long TD return took the air out of the Poquson fans and players and bumped the Generals lead back up to 15.

Later on it would be the Dinwiddie defense that put the game on ice when senior FS Tavares Johnson jumped in front of a Poquson pass and galloped 55 yards for a TD to make it 30-10.

Harvell was the star of the game, making 6 catches for 146 yards and a TD, plus the game-changing kickoff return TD.  Sophomore WR Darius Hawkins also had a big game making 5 catches for 125 yards.

On the road again against perennial Central Region power Varina, the Generals used  a solid ground game and a stifling defense to upset the Blue Devils on their home field 24-21.

The Generals took the opening kickoff and marched down the field for a TD on a 6-yard run by QB Chris Hall .  Later in the 2nd quarter, a 26-yard FG by Scott Thompson made it 10-0.

The Generals defense continued to slow down Varina while also forcing several turnovers.  One of those turnovers, an interception by DE Elmondo King on a batted ball by DE Corey Marshall set the Generals up on the the Varina 2-yard line.  Another Chris Hall TD run on the next play made the score 17-0.

Varina fought back in the 4th quarter on their home field, but a late interception by Dinwiddie CB Cordell Gibbs again set the Generals up for a TD and effectively put the game out of reach.

RB Andre Thweatt carried the ball 15 times for 75 yards and a TD.  Hall ran 19 times for 52 yards and 2 TDs.  Harvell had another solid game with 6 catches for 73 yards.

Defensively the Generals forced 3 turnovers on the night and slowed down the potent Varina running attack all evening long.

Thru the first 2 games the defense has played well, showing the ability to stop the run and fly to the football and force turnovers.  LB Andre Thweatt and DE Corey Marshall have led the way for the Generals.

Thweatt has been extremely impressive so far recording 41 tackles in the first two contests, including a school-record 23 tackles in the season opener at Poquoson.  Marshall has put pressure on opposing QB’s and given the Generals a consistent pass rush.  Fellow D-lineman Diante Monroe and Robert Tanner have also been stout up front for the Gens.

The Generals will play their first home game of the season this Friday, September 17 against Greensville(1-1).  Kickoff is at 7 pm.

Hall announced his decision on Monday morning.

The Hokies are recruiting Hall as an athlete, specifically to play TE.  Hall played QB last season for the Generals.

Marshall made it a double take for the Hokies when he made his announcement Tuesday evening on Comcast Sports Net’s “Washington Post Live”.  Marshall teased viewers by narrowing his choices to Virginia Tech and Virginia, before ultimately choosing the Hokies at the very end of the broadcast.

Marshall was recently named to the Rivals 250 List and is one of the nation’s most highly-recruited DE’s.  Last season he posted 112 tackles and 21 TFL’s.  In his sophomore season, he made 122 tackles while also registering 11 sacks and 17 TFL’s.

Congratulations to both of these young men and their families.
